Canacona and Chaudi: important touristic information

Canacona is the most southern region (taluk) of Goa. The city of Chaudi is the main city of the Taluk. It is also called Chauri or Canacona. It is located 75 km from the capital of Panadji/Panjim state and 36 km from the city of Margao. Canacona city is mostly visited by tourists who are having their holidays in nearby resorts of Palolem Beach, Agonda Beach and Patmen Beach.

The City of Chauda is connected by railway and bus transport routes with major Panaji/Panjim cities and with Margao city in the north and with Karwar city in the south. Buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws will easily and quickly bring you to the nearby villages and beaches of the region.

The town is also famous for its market, where you can buy different spices, vegetables, fruits, gifts, souvenirs and other necessary things. But still many tourists are coming to the market for not only shopping and some purchases making but also for communication with people and getting acquainted with flavors and colors of South Goa.

Main and most interesting sightseeing of Canocana city are: Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Dudhsagar Falls, Kuskem Falls, the oldest Goa Fort Cabo de Rama, Chapoli dam, amazing Anjediva Island, Parthagal Math monastery and Vedic center, Shri Mallikarjuna and Parashuram Temples, Galgibaga Beach which is also called the Beach of tortoises.

In addition to the more famous Palolem Beach and Agonda Beach there are nearly twenty of lesser-known or completely unknown beaches in Cancona Beach region. The unique contribution of Canacona, which the resort brings into the touristic sphere of Goa, are Hatsu – temporary houses that are built just right here, at the beach, and are made of different light construction materials.
